Meroogal Women's Art Prize 2020
Updated: Sep 19, 2020
Celebrating the news that my work Reliquary for Ova was selected as a finalist for the 2020 Meroogal Women's Art Prize.
A vessel to hold shed ova. A reliquary for unwanted pain, hidden grief, shattered hopes and unrealised dreams of the unmarried Meroogal women and myself. Seeds which did not sprout through circumstance and fate. Blood pools at the base. As a woman at the end of a long line of eldest daughters of eldest daughters, this work incorporates my dna, the pale first haircut of my mother and my grandmother’s auburn braid.
Handmade cordage from Red Hot Poker leaves from my mother’s garden, human hair from my mother and grandmother, waxed linen thread, sea fibre balls, Brush Kurrajong Dye.
