Dorothy's Bowl

March 3, 2014

My grandmother Ella made a coiled basket from lavender for my mother Dorothy. This lidded basket was used as my mother's sewing basket. After over 50 years, it still has the faint scent of lavender.

I visited my mother in January 2014. Her lavender bush was ready for harvesting. We sat out the back patio together, stripped and prepared the lavender for coiling. Lavender must be used green so three concentrated days were needed to finish the lavender basket here.

A tribute to my mother and her wonderful gardening skills and lovel of nature
